The combination of Augmented Reality technology and the power of today’s medical imaging modalities have resulted in a novel approach of presenting anatomy. Medical Augmented Reality has the potential to overcome many problems of previous media forms that intended to describe the complexity of the human body. Augmented Reality takes over the task of mentally mapping the patient specific anatomic information onto the patient. Researchers have identified this crucial advantage to be applied to various workflows in the medical field such as diagnostic tasks, surgical navigation, medical training and education or patient education.
